After graduating from Colgate University in 2015, Nick Frued spent a year and a half living abroad – first working as a math teacher in Phuket, Thailand, and then as a bartender throughout Australia. Shortly after returning to New York, Nick and his longtime friend from Colgate, Rob Carroll, came up with an idea: Virtual Reality college campus tours.

While the seed idea proved to be a flawed business concept, it forced Nick and Rob to think critically about the inequities in the college search process, which ultimately lead to a pivot away from VR and towards crowdsourcing authentic video content from real college students throughout the country and world.

Nearly 6 years after the initial idea, Nick and Rob’s company, CampusReel has partnered with over 160 educational institutions in 12 different countries and is emerging as one of the fastest growing EdTech companies in the world. Today, CampusReel’s video recruitment solution enables educational institutions of all shapes and sizes to recruit students more efficiently in a digital environment with authentic, user-generated video content.
