A Chicago native and a 20-year metropolitan Detroiter, Pamela Eatman grew tired of corporate America. As a trained artist as well as a businessperson she dreamed of one day opening an art gallery. Last June, Eatman realized that dream when she opened the doors to Blackbird Gallery, located in the historic Fisher Building, in the New Center area. Currently Pam is looking for a bigger space for the Blackbird Gallery to call home.
Pamela’s intent is not to be divisive by representing Black artists but instead to become the narrator of their stories through their imagery, which as a Black woman, she can connect. Our demographic crosses the color line as lovers of art are drawn to the beauty of the work as well as understanding the increasing value of Black Art. This has not always been the case, but with the recent publicity of celebrities buying black art not only for their beauty but to also diversify their investments. Mostly they look to collect pieces that they love while supporting the Black artist.
