Jon Dwoskin Business Blog: Change Your Routine, Change Your Life - Jon Dwoskin’s CEO Playbook: Part One

As business owners and C-level executives, it’s common for what once was our passion to slowly become our prison. We have to make a conscious effort to break through our daily habits of complacency and reexamine the fundamentals that got us to where we are. At the same time, we need to recognize that what got us where we are won’t get us to where we want to go.As business owners and C-level executives, it’s common for what once was our passion to slowly become our prison. We have to make a conscious effort to break through our daily habits of complacency and reexamine the fundamentals that got us to where we are. At the same time, we need to recognize that what got us where we are won’t get us to where we want to go.

We are all busy, we are all looking to grow — and we are all stuck on some level. Thinking BIG starts with making SMALL shifts in your execution and your mindset.

Ready to get uncomfortable? The following ideas from my CEO Playbook may seem simple, but they are not. Be prepared to change your routine and rebuild your muscle memory.

1. Make Time for Yourself.
Have a morning ritual that eases you into your day. Don’t just wake up and go to work. Do something for yourself each morning, such as meditate, work out, go for a run or walk, journal, or write down ideas. Start the day at your sharpest.

2. Prepare. Prepare. Prepare.
Always end each day preparing for tomorrow. Don’t leave the office before this is done. This allows you to start your next day strong!

3. Simplify with One Calendar
Keep one calendar. If you have a few different calendars or notebooks, pick one and go with it. Stay focused.

4. Master Time Management
Become a master at time management. This will make you money faster than anything you could do. All of us operate on the same 24-hour clock. Use your time and your teams wisely. You’ll have more fun, be more efficient and make more money.

5. Remember the Compound Effect
Do business development every day. Even on your busiest days, make sure you do a minimum of 30 minutes of business development. This will compound over time and grow your business consistently and exponentially.

6. Find a Mentor
Have a mentor you can trust and utilize them on a regular basis. This should be someone you can always call for advice without feeling as if you are being a bother.

7. Remember, Rome Wasn’t Built in a Day
When building your team, hire slow and fire fast. Nothing destroys growth more than having toxic people on the team because you are too afraid to let them go. You’re doing them a favor and your team will thank you for it. To grow, we need to do difficult things.

8. Lead
Be a leader. Don’t just lead, be a leader. Be the person who your team aspires to be.

9. Inspire
Inspire others to be their best. If you bring the best out in others, they will grow your business and bring out the best in the company.

10. It’s Easy as 1-2-3
Make decisions quickly. Be the one who people rely on to help them make a decision. Be the person who makes not only quick decisions, but good decisions.

Study this list to pick the next fundamental to incorporate change into your business and experience the growth you have been looking for. Use what makes sense right now.

Alternatively, pick one each day and use it to create change within your organization. It takes 21 days to break a habit and form a new one. These strategies will help get you “unstuck,” bring clarity to your next business decision, assist you in finding where you’re wasting your time, and help you continue to grow for the ages.

Get ready to have a BIG paradigm shift in your business and grow your bottom line in a BIG way!
